It’s a question of years, not age
at Red Bull BORA is focusing a lot on Primoz Roglic and working to provide him with a structure worthy of what he deserves, at least similar to his years at Jumbo. Physically the Slovenian is still at his best and has even improved, according to the facility’s performance manager, Dan Lorang.
“Primoz’s age means nothing,” he told Velo. “He’s eight or ten years older than Pogacar and those guys, but as a cyclist he’s the same age,” he continued. “We see that Primoz’s numbers are the best he has ever had, he can be there with Pogacar or Evenepoel,” he said.
“he’s probably been on the bike for the same years as them, and that’s the key. “We don’t see the impact of age in roglic like in other athletes,” the specialist said. “The question is the room for growth it has, Primoz hasn’t reached its ceiling and neither have the others,” he said.
Lorang later also touched on the issue of age in relation to recovery,as many believe that Pogacar (26) has an advantage over Roglic (35) in this regard.“Many believe it is indeed a disadvantage, but my experience in other sports tells me or else. I have seen athletes reach their best performances almost in their 40s, and Primoz can do the same,” he warned.
The Vuelta,the starting point
Many Red bull members acknowledged that this year the facility was not up to the standard required for a rider like Roglic. There was also talk of some improvements for the Vuelta, but there was uncertainty due to the absence of the other Vuelta fans from the Tour.
“The Tour was a disaster for us, not just for him. “Everyone gave 120% and the result was zero,” he confessed. “The fall affected him physically and mentally, so what he did in the Vuelta was even more impressive,” continued the specialist.
“Everyone returned from the Vuelta weary but motivated, this was the starting point for the next few years,” concluded Lorang, hinting that there could be changes to the Slovenian’s calendar and also to the dates of the high altitude concentrations.

What are the key training strategies used by Dan lorang to prepare cyclists for major races like La Vuelta?
Interview: A Deep Dive into Cyclist Dynamics with Dan Lorang, Performance Manager at Red Bull BORA
Time.news Editor: Welcome, Dan! We’re thrilled to have you here today. As we approach La Vuelta 2024, there’s been a lot of buzz around your team. You made a strong statement about your leader, Primož roglič. Can you elaborate on why you believe he can stand alongside other cycling giants like Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard?
Dan Lorang: thank you for having me! Yes, I believe Roglič is definitely capable of competing at the highest level against Pogačar and Vingegaard. It’s critically important to remember that he shares the same age as Pogačar, which plays a crucial factor in his performance. Age is just a number when it comes to cycling; it’s about form, health, and mental strength.
Time.news Editor: that’s an interesting perspective! many fans often associate age with decline in performance. Can you discuss how athletes like Roglič maintain their edge even as they approach what is typically considered the peak age for cyclists?
Dan Lorang: Absolutely! What we often see is that experience brings a different kind of strength. Cyclists in their late twenties or early thirties, like Roglič, can leverage years of racing experience to navigate complex race situations. They understand pacing, strategy, and how to handle various terrains better than younger riders. This depth of experience, combined with the right training, can keep an athlete competitive at a high level.
Time.news Editor: It’s fascinating how mental and strategic components come into play.In terms of training, what special focus does your team put on Roglič to ensure he stays competitive in this elite company?
dan Lorang: Our approach includes tailored training, nutrition, and recovery strategies. We monitor his performance metrics closely and adjust his training regimen to address specific goals. For instance, leading up to La Vuelta, we emphasize endurance and hill climbing, critical components of the race. We also incorporate mental coaching to keep him sharp and focused, which is just as critically important as physical preparation.
Time.news Editor: Speaking of La Vuelta, what are your expectations for the race this year? How do you see Roglič performing against his top rivals?
Dan Lorang: I expect it to be an exciting showdown! Roglič is in great form and, paired with the right team support, I anticipate he will not only hold his own but may also surprise some people. The competition is fierce, but I believe that with his experience and resilience, he can challenge for the top spots.
Time.news Editor: sounds like an exciting race ahead! Before we wrap up, are there any other dynamics within the team or the sport itself that you think are crucial for fans to understand as they follow La Vuelta?
Dan Lorang: Definitely! Cycling is more of a team sport than many realise. The dynamics between teammates can massively influence the outcome of a race. Support in terms of pacing, strategizing at critical junctures, and even moral support plays a huge role in performance. fans should keep an eye on these interactions, as they can be the difference between winning and losing.
Time.news Editor: Thank you, Dan, for such insightful responses! It’s clear that the mental and physical aspects of cycling create a complex landscape. We can’t wait to see how everything unfolds at La Vuelta!
Dan Lorang: Thank you! I’m looking forward to it as well—and I hope the fans enjoy every moment of the competition.
