This morning, the British newspaper Sky Sports reported that 12 football associations have united and asked FIFA to exclude Israel from all competitions, similar to the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation*.

The proposal to expel the Israeli national team and Israeli teams was led by Jordanian Prince Ali bin Hussein. The federations of Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Emirates also joined his request.

According to a letter sent by the Jordanian prince to the world’s 211 football associations, as well as FIFA and UEFA, “Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza and killing innocent people, including football players, coaches, referees and football industry professionals. We must present a united front, isolating Israeli football from any activity until we stop these acts of aggression.”

Niv Goldstein, CEO of the Israel Football Association, told Sky Sports: “We are against the involvement of politicians in football and involvement in political issues in sports in general. We are concentrating on our efforts to achieve the dream of qualifying for Euro 2024 and I look forward to world peace.”

It should be noted that the Nations League draw will take place this evening, but before that there will be UEFA’s annual meeting in Paris and it is likely that the Israeli issue will be raised among senior industry officials there.

Cursor previously wrote that European politicians opposed Israel’s participation in Eurovision.
