The negotiations are not over yet

“It depends on the parliament. The negotiating teams can at best make a proposal, but the decision is up to the parliament” – this is how the resigned Finance Minister Asen Vasilev answered a question about whether he will remain in his post in the new government.

At 12:00 tomorrow, Maria Gabriel and representatives of GERB-SDS will appear before President Rumen Radev for the handing over of the first mandate to form a government. GERB leader Boyko Borisov said on Friday that if Gabriel does not go to Radev on Monday with a ready composition of the Council of Ministers, then the talks will stop and we will go to elections again.

“Negotiations continue. This is Mrs. Gabriel’s decision,” Vassilev answered when asked if his name would be on Gabriel’s list tomorrow.

“The main focus of these negotiations was to draw up a document that clearly outlines how we proceed in the next nine months and beyond – until the end of the mandate, as we did the first time Mr. Denkov’s government was formed. Then there was a lot a clear legislative program that was filled with little damage for parliament to repair to unlock a second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, there was a very clear government program,” Vassilev explained. He himself is also part of the PP-DB negotiating team.

“After the first nine months we adopted legislation – anti-corruption, change in the constitution, etc., all this must become real and not remain on paper. In order to become real, rules must be agreed upon by which elections will be held members of all these bodies, to have citizen participation, not to do it quickly and in the dark, to have a broad enough process. The other thing that is extremely important is to set the legislative program for the next 9 months, the government program and renew what remains of the first government program,” Vassilev explained.

And he, as Academician Nikolay Denkov, defined himself as a “moderate optimist” for the development of the negotiations.
