Asian Champions Trophy Hockey: India to face Japan in final today

Dhaka: The Indian Hockey Team will play in the final of the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey today. In the semifinals, the opponents are Asian Games winners Japan. The match will be played in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh at 5.30 pm Indian time. In the group stage, India defeated Japan by six unanswered goals. The first semi-final between Pakistan and South Korea will be played at 3 pm.

India drew 2-2 with South Korea in the first match of the tournament, defeating Bangladesh (9-0), Pakistan (3-1) and Japan (6-0) in straight sets.

Defending champions India secured the semi-finals by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by three goals to one in the toughest match of the tournament. Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals to give India the lead. Akash Deep Singh scored India’s third goal. Junaid Mansoor scored the consolation goal for Pakistan. When the final was abandoned in 2018 due to bad weather, India and Pakistan were declared joint winners.

In the final match of the round-robin stage, India had the upper hand after defeating Japan by six goals. Harmanpreet Singh scored a brace while Dilpreet Singh, Jarampreet Singh, Sumit and Shamsar Singh were the other scorers. Harmanpreet leads the way with six goals in the tournament. Dilpreet is second with four goals.
