Assassin’s Creed Shadows Receives Major Update to Address Switch 2 Stability Issues

A new update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, version 1.1.7, is rolling out this week to address crashing and stability issues plaguing the Switch 2 version of the game, Ubisoft announced. The 3.66 GB patch, arriving on other platforms December 16th, 2025, and the Switch 2 on December 17th, 2025, delivers a comprehensive suite of bug fixes and improvements aimed at enhancing the player experience.

The initial launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the Switch 2 was marred by reports of instability, prompting Ubisoft to commit to a swift resolution. “We heard your feedback and are bringing new finishers to combat!” a company release stated, signaling a dedication to addressing player concerns.

Key Improvements for Nintendo Switch 2

The update focuses heavily on optimizing performance for the Switch 2. Specifically, developers have improved various FPS issues, fixed crashes for enhanced stability, and resolved a range of visual glitches. Improvements have also been made to the touchscreen experience, and a frustrating issue where the console prompted players to reconnect controllers even when already connected has been resolved. Additionally, a fix has been implemented to prevent players from getting stuck on a black screen after creating or logging into a Ubisoft Connect account during the initial boot menu.

New Content and Gameplay Enhancements

Beyond stability improvements, Title Update 1.1.7 introduces a wealth of new content and gameplay refinements. Players can now enjoy new finisher animations for both Naoe and Yasuke, adding flair to combat encounters. A new Animus Rift, titled “Lost and Found,” offers a mysterious new area to explore, complete with puzzles and secrets.

The update also introduces a new Project: Defiance, available in the Animus HUB, allowing players to unlock a new Bo staff, Trinket, and other rewards by completing Anomalies. A quick access feature for the Vault has been added to the Animus menu for easier access. Furthermore, Gold, Mastery, and Knowledge Points are now available as daily offers in the Exchange, purchasable with Keys.

Detailed Patch Notes Breakdown

The update addresses a variety of specific issues across multiple game systems:

Gameplay: An exploit allowing double engravings on the Sword of Fathoms has been removed, and a bug preventing the sale of Naginatas has been fixed. Perks that checked Mastery points will now update correctly, and a bug causing missing damage upgrades when leveling skills has been resolved. The Bo Staff’s affliction buildup stat will now increase when upgraded to Mythic and Artifact quality, and perk wording has been clarified. A fix has been implemented to prevent Knowledge Scrolls from disappearing from player inventories. Shared skills between Naoe and Yasuke will now correctly be learned by both characters.

Claws of Awaji: A critical issue affecting players with multiple copies of the game – one with and one without the Claws of Awaji Expansion – which caused a permanent loss of fast travel to Awaji, has been resolved.

World: Players can now whistle while using the Follow Road mechanic, adding to the immersive experience. Corrupted Castles will no longer reset when loading previous saves after a season change, and an issue causing enemies and loot to respawn upon loading saves before changing seasons has been fixed.

Visuals & Graphics: Facial animations for Naoe and Yasuke have been adjusted to appear more natural during cinematics when wearing a hood.

UI: Inconsistencies between smuggled rewards displayed in the UI and the actual rewards received have been corrected, as have inconsistencies with the Stables upgrade UI. The location name for “Kawarajiri Lumber Camp” has been corrected in the Japanese version of the game.

Online Store: A bug preventing players from receiving Store, Deluxe, and Premium items into their inventory has been fixed.

Quests (SPOILERS AHEAD!): Issues preventing the completion of the “Swords and Sake,” “Eliminate Outlaws,” and “Temple Stories” quests have been addressed, ensuring Joken Hokkyo remains available for the latter. Wandering enemies in the “Dismantling One by One” quest will now be indicated with a marker.

Will players return to Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the Switch 2 following this update remains to be seen, but Ubisoft’s commitment to addressing the initial issues suggests a positive path forward. [source ubisoft.com]
