Netflix is set to launch Sparks of Tomorrow, a new steampunk anime series, on July 2026. The series, adapted from Yuki Hiroshi’s comics 20 Seiki Motor Muliu originally published by KA Esma Bunko, represents a new artistic frontier for Kyoto Animation, showcasing stunning impressionistic backgrounds and remarkably detailed animation. The story unfolds in a reimagined early 20th century where steam power reigns supreme, and Kyoto is perpetually veiled in smog.

The narrative centers on a young man, withdrawn after the loss of his brother, and a devout young woman haunted by the memory of her mother. Their paths converge as they delve into the mysteries of 20th-century electrical catalogs, glimpsing a future they desperately desire. Together, they must confront their pasts and forge a path toward a brighter tomorrow.

Sparks of Tomorrow is produced by Kyoto Animation and directed by Minoru Ohta (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid). Urahata Tatsuhiko is handling the series composition, while Kohei Okamura serves as character designer and general animation director. Suzuki Takaaki is responsible for the series’ worldview construction, and Kotomi is composing the music.

The voice cast includes Uchida Yuma as Kihachi Sakamoto and Tiangong Qingyu as Momokawa Inako.

The latest installment in the ‘Baki’ franchise promises brutal action and a clash of eras.

What is the most anticipated anime release of February? Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai, the newest series in the popular Baki franchise, will premiere on Netflix on February 26. Adapted from Keisuke Itagaki’s manga Baki, originally serialized in Weekly Junior Champion from 2014 to 2018, the series is produced by TMS Entertainment (Baki, Baki Hamma).

The story revolves around the greatest father-son battle ever conceived. Bored with a lack of worthy opponents, the strongest fighters devise a plan: to resurrect Miyamoto Musashi, the legendary Japanese swordsman. The series promises a visually stunning showdown between a resurrected warrior and the most formidable underground fighter.

Toshiki Hirano (Baki, Baki Hamma) directs Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai, with series composition by Tatsuhiko Urahata and character design by Shingo Ishikawa (assistant animation director on Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagram and key animator on son of the ocean). Hiromi Miyawaki handles color design, Seiko Akashi is responsible for the backgrounds, Yuriko Sano edits, and Kenji Fujisawa (Team-MAX) composes the music.

The Japanese voice cast features Shimazaki Nobunaga as Baki Hamma, Akio Otsuka as Yujiro Hanka, Naoya Uchida as Miyamoto Musashi, Koyama Rashiya, Takuya Eguchi, Takayuki Suga, Yukihisa Kawahara, Shimada Bin, Kenta Miyake, Tetsuo Kaneo, Golden Gate, Ogata Kenichi, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, Ken Narita, Murase, and Furuya Tetsu as the narrator.
