Time.news – At least 44 people were killed and a few hundreds following the earthquake that hit Java, the main Indonesian island this morning. This was reported to the press by a local official in the most affected city, Cianjur.

“The information we have so far, in this hospital alone, is of 20 dead and at least 300 people who are receiving treatment. Most of them have fractures due to being trapped in the ruins of the buildings,” said the head of the director of Cianjur, Herman Suherman, to the Metro TV channel. Cianjur is located about 110 kilometers southeast of the capital Jakarta.

“There have been dozens of people killed. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of houses have been damaged,” said the spokesman for the local government in the town of Cianjur in West Java, where the epicenter of the quake was recorded.
