Ridwan Kamil and Atalia Praratya Divorce Granted by Bandung Religious Court

The Bandung Religious Court has officially granted the divorce petition filed by Atalia Praratya against West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, bringing an end to their marriage. The decision was delivered electronically on Wednesday, January 7th, marking a significant development in the high-profile case.

The court confirmed that the lawsuit filed by Atalia Praratya, identified only by her initials “AT,” was approved. However, details of the ruling remain confidential due to the sensitive nature of the proceedings. “So the development is that for today the agenda is the handing down of a verdict because the case has gone through trial, the trial has finished,” explained a Public Relations official from the Bandung Religious Court. “So for today the verdict is generally read. The point is that the lawsuit filed by Initial AT against RK is in essence the lawsuit was granted. However, read out electronically, it cannot be published publicly.”

The divorce proceedings were conducted behind closed doors, in accordance with Article 80 paragraph (2) of Law Number 7 of 1989, preventing public access to the judges’ reasoning. Despite inquiries, the specific considerations that led to the court’s decision have not been disclosed.

A key aspect of the divorce settlement involves the custody of their daughter, Zahra. Both Atalia Praratya and Ridwan Kamil reached an agreement to grant full custody to the mother. “Essentially, for the child, it was agreed upon by both parties, Zahra and the mother,” the court official stated.

The court has allotted a 14-day period for either party to file an appeal should they disagree with the ruling. As of today, neither side has publicly indicated their intention to do so. Attorneys representing both Atalia Praratya and Ridwan Kamil confirmed they had not yet received the official court decision. “Not yet,” stated Debi Agusfriansa, counsel for Atalia Praratya, when contacted for comment. Similarly, Ridwan Kamil’s attorney, Wenda Aluwi, confirmed they were awaiting the formal documentation.
