Kyrgyz Authorities Dispute Viral Video of Former Deputy’s Home Search
A video circulating online alleging a recent search of the home of Shailobek Atazov, a former member of the Kyrgyz parliament, is outdated and refers to investigative actions concluded in June 2025, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The clarification comes amid concerns over the spread of misinformation and its potential impact on public perception.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs addressed the circulating video, stating that the footage depicts events related to a criminal case initiated under Article 263 of the Kyrgyz Criminal Code – specifically, charges of financing organized groups and criminal communities. “These images refer to previously conducted investigative actions that took place in June 2025,” a ministry statement confirmed.
Investigation Launched into Misinformation Spread
Currently, authorities assert that no procedural actions are underway against Atazov. This denial directly counters the implication of the viral video, which suggested ongoing investigations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation to determine the origin of the resurfaced footage and the motives behind its dissemination.
“In the event of the dissemination of outdated materials, an investigation is being carried out aimed at establishing the source of the publication and the reasons for the spread of misinformation,” the ministry stated. This proactive response underscores the government’s commitment to controlling the narrative and preventing the spread of potentially damaging false information.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by governments in the digital age, where unverified content can rapidly gain traction and influence public opinion. The Ministry’s swift response aims to mitigate any potential damage caused by the misleading video and reaffirm the current status of the case involving the former deputy.
