Yes, we want to have a second atomic power unit and we will do everything to ensure that the production of atomic energy does not stop in Armenia for a single day, RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan told reporters.
“The role of nuclear energy in the energy system is very large. We will continue to give great importance to the development of atomic energy. Atomic energy production should not be stopped in Armenia. Our whole intention is to make it so that by the end of the operation and service life of the existing plant, we will have a new power unit and immediately connect the new power unit to the grid,” said Gnel Sanosyan.
The minister mentioned that this is the main strategy for the government, they have started clear work in that direction and will continue.
“We will make the progress of the work so that the construction of a new nuclear power unit will begin approximately from 2026-27, taking into account that it may take 8-10 years, and when the work of our existing nuclear power plant comes to an end, we will immediately be able to have a new nuclear power unit.” said the minister.
