From the far left to the far right, the same reactions from political representatives after the fatal attack on a high school in Arras: horror at the facts and tribute to the agents of the establishment. After the discovery of this tragedy, the National Assembly suspended its work in solidarity with the victims.

The Head of State, Emmanuel Macron, must go there, as well as the Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, who asked the rectors of academies on Friday to “take without delay all measures” necessary to “strengthen the security of all educational establishments in France, in a message sent by the ministry.

“The government shares the mourning of families, the educational community and (…) the national community”, assured, from the Assembly, Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital. He “salutes the heroism of those who seem to have wanted to intervene to avoid the tragedy”.

“Three years after the despicable terrorist assassination of Samuel Paty, another deadly attack against teachers. Fear and disgust,” reacted Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI). “Fear after the new murder of a teacher (…) We are not done with terrorism,” writes Olivier Faure, the boss of the PS, on X, formerly Twitter.

The President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, reiterates that “the horror has just struck”. On the Republican side, President Éric Ciotti (LR) denounced an “absolute horror”. “Once again, it is our teachers who are attacked because they are the symbols of our Republic. I would like to pay tribute to them and congratulate the heroism of the staff who faced this armed individual,” he published on his social networks.

The Republicans also asked Emmanuel Macron, via a press release from Éric Ciotti, to reestablish the state of emergency. The boss of LR called for “the strongest possible mobilization of law enforcement” by employing police and gendarmerie reservists. “Let’s not wait for France to be hit harder, we must act preventively,” he said in a press release in which he called on the government to “no longer tremble in the face of Islamism and immigration massive “.
