Attack on U.S. Soldiers Near Jordan-Syria Border: President Biden Condemns, Promises Response

Washington: The U.S. military said three U.S. soldiers were killed and 25 wounded in a drone strike in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border. President Joe Biden condemned the attack.

But Jordan has said the drone strike that killed three American soldiers did not take place on its territory. Regarding this, Jordanian government spokesman Muhannat Mubaidin told reporters, “The attack targeting American forces did not happen in Jordan. This happened at a site called al-Tanf in Syria,” he said. US President Joe Biden has accused Iran-backed terrorist groups of carrying out the attack. He also said that strict action will be taken against them.

After the attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, the Middle East has been in a tense situation. Various terrorist groups there have been carrying out attacks using drones, rockets and ballistic missiles, some of which are frequent. In the past few months alone, there have been about 90 attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria. US soldiers have died in an attack on the Jordanian border while there have been no casualties so far.

President Joe Biden, who attended an event in South Carolina, held a moment of silence for the American soldiers killed in the attack. Then he said, “We will respond to this.” He also said in a statement, “This is a despicable and totally unjustified attack. We are gathering information about this attack, which we know was carried out by radical pro-Iranian militias operating in Syria and Iraq. They must respond to this attack. “I offer my condolences to those who lost their lives in this attack,” he said.
