The Attorney General of the Nation announced the opening of a disciplinary investigation against the Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, for not complying with the order to make appointments on property of the Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG).
According to the head of the Public Ministry, this measure was taken due to non-compliance with three requirements made by the control entity, which warned about the interim status that is presented in the CREG. This situation is reflected in the decrease in Commission sessions compared to the previous year, where they were held in 2023. 231 sessions, while in 2024, to date, only 11 have been held.

The Attorney General’s Office detailed that, since October 2023, the CREG commissioners have abandoned their positions, which has led to there currently being only one commissioner in office.. The rest are being assigned to vice ministers or directors, which has generated a lack of quorum in the sessions and decisions that affect the autonomy of the Commission.
The decision to open the disciplinary investigation is based on the fact that the Minister of Mines and Energy is in charge of delivering the profiles of the commissioners for their proper appointment. However, until now, he has continued to send names for temporary assignments, which reduces the CREG’s autonomy in decision-making.
The Attorney General emphasized the importance of entities, especially the CREG, have directors with proprietary positionssince its management period is 8 years, which guarantees its independence in decision-making in the energy sector.
