Auckland Duo Charged Following ATM Kidnapping and Assault

A 32-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman are facing serious charges in Auckland District Court after a harrowing incident involving the forced withdrawal of funds from multiple ATMs. The swift response by local authorities led to their arrest following an overnight investigation.
Police were alerted to the situation when the victim immediately contacted them after being released by the alleged offenders. According to authorities, the victim was compelled to drive to an ATM on Stoddard Rd to withdraw additional funds, and was subsequently taken to a second ATM location before the perpetrators fled the scene in a vehicle.
Vehicle Abandoned, Suspects Apprehended
At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Thursday, officers successfully located the vehicle abandoned on Emily Place. A subsequent investigation revealed the alleged offenders had checked into a nearby hotel.
“Police tasered the pair as they exited the room,” a senior official stated. The use of force was deemed necessary during the apprehension of the suspects.
Charges Filed and Community Assurance
The pair now face charges of assault with intent to injure, kidnapping, and theft. These charges reflect the severity of the alleged crimes committed.
“This police activity should send a clear message to those involved in this unlawful behaviour that it will not be tolerated by police or the community,” the official added. “This is really seriously offending and police are focused on ensuring the victim gets the support they need following this traumatic incident.”
