NSW has recorded 19 cumulative cases of meningococcal disease this year. It is most commonly caused by infection with meningococcal B strain.

Selway warned people to watch out for symptoms and seek medical help if they’re concerned. with information from the ministry It points out that meningococcal disease can be life-threatening within hours if left untreated. And children under 5 years old and the age group 15-25 years are most at risk of contracting this disease.

Possible symptoms include sudden fever, headache, stiff neck, fatigue, joint or limb pain, aversion to bright light, nausea and vomiting. Including a rash with purple-red spots or bruises. Sick babies may cry in a high-pitched voice.
