Austria keeps good relations with the Western Balkans: Balkan President comes to the Opera Ball

Vienna. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will receive Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic and his wife Milena Milatovic, who will pay an official visit to Austria on Thursday, February 8, 2024. In the evening, the Federal President and state guests will attend the Opera Ball. Montenegrin President Milatovic and his wife will accompany Federal President Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer at the Opera Ball to be held in the evening.

In his statement before the meeting, Van der Bellen stated that “they will go to the Opera Ball together as a sign of friendship between Austria and Montenegro and as a symbol of Austria’s commitment to the Western Balkans.” Van der Bellen continued his speech, touching on the importance of relations with the Western Balkans, with the following words: “I believe that a realistic EU accession perspective for the countries of the region is more important than ever today. Moreover, given Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a strong and visible EU commitment to the Western Balkans is crucial and also a geostrategic imperative. Austria is therefore determined to ensure that the Western Balkans remain on the agenda.”

According to information obtained from the Presidential Office, Van der Bellen will welcome his counterpart with a military ceremony in the inner courtyard of the castle at 10.30. Members of the press will be accepted between 9.45 – 10.15. The press conference between the two heads of state will be held at the Presidential Chancellery at 12:00 noon.
