AWEX organizes the first Spanish-Belgian hackathon that applies videogame and animation technologies for education, culture and tourism

The Belgian embassy in Spain, through AWEX (Walloon Agency for Export and Foreign Investment), invites you to participate in the first Spanish-Belgian hackathon on the subject: How to use the technologies of videogames and 2D and 3D animation in the academic, cultural and tourist fields?

The initiative seeks to promote cooperation and innovation in the creative and digital industries between both countries. All this, with the intention of promoting innovation to enhance the European creative industry.

The goal of the hackathon is create synergies between the business ecosystem of Spain and BelgiumTherefore, Spanish companies and studios from the video game, animation, immersive experiences and XR and VFX technologies sectors are invited to participate in this initiative to develop long-term relationships that further enhance the economy between both countries.

The event, which is part of the third edition of Casa Wallonia 2023 and which AWEX organizes together with ESNE, University School of Design, Innovation and Technologyencourages participants to apply the technology of videogames and 2D and 3D animation in the educational, cultural and tourism sector with the aim of developing new digital products and services that show the multiple uses that gaming technologies have in these areas. .

Thus, from February to April, participating students, studios and companies will meet virtually to create their projects and develop their products, with the aim of present the prototypes on April 25 in the ESNE auditoriumwhere a Belgian and Spanish jury will decide who is the winning team.

From AWEX they point out that these new technologies are already key to the economy because, without going any further, in Belgium, the video game sector has a total value of 600 million euros, while in Spain it exceeds 1,000 million, according to data from DEV.

In addition, in Belgium there are 300 companies dedicated to animation and it is one of the countries with the greatest 2D animation thanks to its strong tradition of comics and comics. In fact, animated films alone represent between 15 and 25% of Belgian film activity. Not to mention that both countries have many leaders in the field of video mapping and immersive exhibitions.
