The presidency of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly passed to Azerbaijan for two years.

As Day.Az reported on Thursday with reference to Trend, the chairmanship passed to Azerbaijan at the XIV plenary meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Baku.

Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova announced that the Milli Majlis is taking over the presidency of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly for a period of two years.

She emphasized that accepting the chairmanship from brotherly Turkey is a great pride.

S. Gafarova noted that today humanitarian crises, conflicts, poverty, climate change, increased discrimination, racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia also negatively affect the Asian region.

“We must admit that all these challenges can be solved collectively, only through joint efforts, and not individually. This also applies to peace, security, stability and sustainable development in our region. Taking into account natural and human resources, achievements in various fields, I believe that Our region has enough capabilities to cope with these challenges.

Geography, demographics, cultural and religious diversity of the Asian region do not separate our countries and peoples. On the contrary, this diversity enriches and brings them closer. Asia has a lot to offer in terms of cooperation, dialogue and solidarity. In this sense, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly is an important multilateral platform for these purposes,” added the Speaker of the Milli Majlis.
