RA NA MP Tigran Abrahamyan writes: “The West is hardening its policy towards Azerbaijan, one of the manifestations of which is the non-ratification of the powers of the Azerbaijani delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which means that the Azerbaijani delegation is removed from the PACE for at least 1 year.

This is largely due to the fact that Azerbaijan is causing great damage to the strategic goals declared by the West in the South Caucasus with its actions.

What does it entail in the first place? In the face of an aggressive confrontation with Russia, the West is trying to take control of the situation in the region, which at this stage implies the establishment of peace and stability. This is a process that the Russian Federation kept in its hands after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

At the moment, a great struggle is going on within the framework of defining the rules of the game and maintaining them, and Azerbaijan, in fact, does not fulfill the internal agreements with the West. The agreement was as follows: Artsakh is handed over to Azerbaijan, and issues related to Armenia are settled through negotiations.

By making new territorial demands against Armenia, as well as by defeating the work in the main directions, Azerbaijan is failing the prospect of peace, which is not included in the calculations of the West.

This is why the West is getting tough right now, not before the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan or full control over Artsakh.

The main reasons, which are officially placed at the basis of the application of sanctions against Azerbaijan, are problems recorded in previous years, but I repeat, political expediency forces the West to take such steps at this moment.
