Azerbaijan is working to provide nationally determined contributions related to climate change.
As Day.Az reported on Thursday, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, President of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev said this while speaking at the 15th St. Petersburg Climate Dialogue.
“We will work on two parallel tracks that are mutually reinforcing, and action on each will send a strong signal in support of the other. This includes developing clear plans to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, as well as highlighting financial resources necessary to implement these plans,” he noted.
Mukhtar Babayev mentioned that as the host country of COP29, Azerbaijan understands the need to lead by example, and therefore measures to combat climate change will be central to the country’s development plan.
“COP29 will not be focused solely on finance, climate change support or any other single component. It will be about bringing all these elements together to move the process forward. And if we decide to work on both of these fronts, this year could be the moment when we make real progress,” he emphasized.
