Azerbaijan’s share in global emissions is about one thousandth.
As Day.Az reported on Monday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the General Director of COP29 Elnur Soltanov in his speech during the first press conference of the COP29 chairmanship.
“The share of the energy sector in emissions is 70 percent. 90 percent of electricity is generated in a traditional manner. In this direction, Azerbaijan is making a very rapid transition to renewable energy sources.
We have inefficient stations, but we are working to transform them into efficient ones,” he emphasized.
It should be noted that on April 15, the first press conference was held at the COP29 General Staff in connection with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in November 2024 in Azerbaijan. Speakers at the event included COP29 President-designate Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 Chief Negotiator Yalchin Rafiev, COP29 General Director Elnur Soltanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of the COP29 Operating Company Narmin Dzharchalova, UN High-Level Climate Leader Nigar Arpadarai, COP29 Youth Climate Advocate in Azerbaijan Leyla Hasanova.
