The iconic group faced freezing temperatures and a condensed shooting schedule to deliver a reimagined performance for the big game.

  • The backstreet Boys filmed a T-Mobile Super Bowl commercial in Times Square during a winter storm.
  • The original two-day shoot was compressed into a single, long day due to the weather.
  • The group recorded new lyrics for the commercial, putting a unique spin on their classic song.
  • Machine Gun Kelly makes a cameo appearance in the ad, filming his scenes late into the night.
The Backstreet Boys’ involvement promises a nostalgic and playful moment during Super Bowl LXI, set to air on February 8.
“We were hit with the winter storm right at the exact same time we were supposed to start filming,” Nick Carter revealed, noting that adjustments were quickly made to accommodate the unexpected conditions because the shoot was originally planned over two days.
The schedule was ultimately condensed into one long day. “It was a whirlwind,” Carter added. “But we made it happen. The takeaway is simple: it’s better over here.”
The in-store shoot included approximately 50 extras-customers and fans of the Backstreet Boys-who were present during filming.
The ad also features appearances by Druski and Pierson Fodé. Steve Pink directed the spot, with Andrew Panay, brian Klugman, and Nate Tuck serving as producers, and Kevin Anderson as editor.
AJ McLean recalled the dedication of a young actress who filmed her scenes late into the night, opposite Machine Gun Kelly, who made a comedic cameo. “We knew that MGK had not started filming yet,and we had wrapped close to 2 a.m. and he hadn’t even started filming his bit yet,” McLean said. “So that means that little girl was problably there at, like, three in the morning… But everybody, from the extras to crew, they just kept the ball rolling.”
Prior to filming, the Backstreet Boys spent time in the studio recording new lyrics for “I Want It That Way,” specifically tailored for the T-mobile commercial. Howie Dorough shared that they recorded “several different versions of the different takes and the lyrics.”
