Tragic Christmas Day Shooting in Oklahoma

A festive holiday turned tragic when a man practicing with a new handgun accidentally shot and killed a woman sitting on her porch with her baby.

  • Cody Wayne Adams, 33, of Oklahoma, faces first-degree manslaughter charges.
  • The victim was struck by a bullet while sitting on her front porch with her child.
  • Adams was reportedly practicing shooting cans with a recently gifted pistol.
  • The incident occurred around 3:15 pm local time on December 25th.

According to reports from December 27, Cody Wayne Adams was recently indicted on the charges following the Christmas Day incident.

Police responded to a report of a gunshot wound at approximately 3:15 pm on December 25th. The victim, identified as “Mr. A,” was sitting on the front porch of her home with her baby and family when she was tragically struck.

Witnesses reported hearing between five and seven gunshots shortly before the incident. The bullet entered the victim’s chest after passing through her arm, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators discovered that Adams had loaded at least 18 rounds into the firearm.

Adams reportedly told authorities he was practicing shooting at cans with a new pistol he received as a Christmas gift. His home and the victim’s residence were approximately 500 meters apart.

The bullet’s trajectory suggests it deflected off a fragment of a floor tile before striking the victim.

Adams initially stated he “fired the gun into the ground in his backyard,” but authorities found no barriers in place to prevent ricocheting bullets from leaving his property.

After learning of the victim’s death and his status as a suspect, Adams reportedly became distraught, shedding tears and apologizing, saying, “I’m sorry.”

Adams’ bail is currently set at $100,000 (approximately 130 million won), and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 26th.
