Kindergarten Heater Fall Injures Two in Bad Saulgau, Germany
A malfunctioning heater caused chaos and minor injuries at a kindergarten in Bad Saulgau, Germany, on Thursday, as a large radiator detached from the wall, releasing scalding hot water and creating a dense cloud of water vapor.
A five-year-old child and a 28-year-old teacher sustained slight injuries in the incident, according to police reports. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, ensuring the safety of all children and staff.
Heater Malfunction Leads to Emergency Response
The incident occurred at a kindergarten in Bad Saulgau, a town located in the Sigmaringen district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Initial investigations suggest the radiator, measuring approximately three meters long and 80 centimeters high, fell due to a compromised fastening.
“The radiator came loose from the wall, immediately severing the connected water pipes,” a senior official stated. This resulted in a significant leak of hot water, quickly filling the kindergarten with steam.
Children and Staff Evacuated, Injuries Reported
Firefighters arrived to find a large portion of the kindergarten enveloped in a thick fog of water vapor. They immediately prioritized the evacuation of the children and teachers, bringing everyone to safety.
The five-year-old child was struck in the foot by the falling radiator, resulting in a bruise. The teacher suffered minor burns to her hands from contact with the escaping hot water. Paramedics treated both individuals on-site before transporting them to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Damage Control and Investigation
Following the evacuation, firefighters worked to shut off the heating system and pump the accumulated water from the facility. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the faulty fastening and will be reviewing safety protocols at the kindergarten to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The incident underscores the critical importance of regular maintenance and inspection of heating systems in public buildings.
