Baena revolts against Valverde: “There are lies that hurt more than blows”

by time news

The confrontation between Fede Valverde and Álex Baena continues adding chapters. Two days after the Real Madrid player punched the Villarreal footballer in the left cheekbone after the duel between their teams at the Santiago Bernabéu had ended, the Roquetas de Mar-born midfielder issued a statement in the who rejects the version of events provided by the Uruguayan’s entourage, assures that he has received threats and insults through social networks and stresses that the matter is in the hands of justice.

“Last Saturday I was attacked by a colleague at the end of the game against Real Madrid,” Baena points out in a note in which he recalls that after that episode some statements allegedly made by Valverde’s entourage came to light in which It was argued that the origin of the dispute lay in the fact that the man from Almeria had “desired the pain of a relative” of the Charrúa.

Baena emphasizes that since then, “no evidence has been published to prove the facts” that are accused of. “A misfortune was taken advantage of to justify the aggression and there are lies that hurt more than blows,” argues the midfielder of the ‘groguet’ team, who reiterates the “irreparable and unjustifiable” damage that is being caused to his family and reveals that he has received “threats, insults and even private messages wishing death” to those closest to him.

“Yesterday I reported the case to the Police. Let justice do its job. Now, my only objective is to focus on my profession and help my club achieve its objectives”, Baena concludes.

Valverde’s entourage argues that Baena told the Uruguayan “cry now that your son is not going to be born” during the Copa del Rey clash between Villarreal and Real Madrid on January 19 at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Those words would have been the genesis of the confrontation they had in the Santiago Bernabéu parking lot shortly after the end of last Saturday’s game corresponding to matchday 28 of the League. However, Baena rejects that version and filed a complaint with the Police against Valverde, a decision in which his club supports him despite ruling out in advance any action on his behalf.

Anti-violence will come into effect

In this way, the resolution of the case now focuses on criminal proceedings, since when the attack occurred away from the field of play, the minutes of the match official, the Castilian-La Mancha player Alberola Rojas, do not include anything in this regard. This does not mean that there cannot be a sports sanction against Valverde.

The National Anti-Violence Commission is scheduled to meet next Monday and will enter ex officio once it receives the complaint made by Baena to the National Police. Anti-violence could then raise the matter to the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) so that it is the Competition Committee that decides the sanction to Valverde or impose the punishment itself that contemplates the Sports Law for these cases, whose range goes from one to six months of prohibition of access to sports venues for the aggressor.
