Czech & Slovak Television Ratings Surge with Competition and Crime Drama

Czech Television’s “Peča čela zemje” and the Slovak crime series “Neuer” dominated weekend viewership, attracting over 2 million combined viewers across both countries. These figures highlight the continued strength of locally produced content in Central Europe.

On Saturday evening, the second episode of “Peča čela zemje” captivated 1.05 million viewers with a 30.90% share of the audience, becoming the most-watched program of the day. According to a representative from Czech Television, many viewers remained tuned to the ČT channel even after a contestant’s elimination from a concurrent confectionery show.

Documentary Portrait Draws Significant Audience

Following the competition, the documentary “I’m better than I deserve,” profiling Tomáš Töpfer, garnered 723,000 viewers and a 25.60% share. The film, which explores the multifaceted life of an actor, theater director, and politician, secured the second-highest viewership for a non-news program on Saturday.

Slovak Crime Series “Neuer” Captures Top Spot on Sunday

Across the border, the premiere of the Slovak crime series “Neuer” resonated with audiences, averaging 913,000 viewers and a 24.99% share. The inaugural episode, titled “Krkavčí soud,” claimed the title of the most-watched program on Sunday evening. A repeat broadcast of “Kriminálka Anděl,” a popular crime procedural, followed in second place with 831,000 viewers aged 15 and over. The third most-watched program was another rerun, this time from the first season of “Kriminálka Anděl” dating back to 2008.

Real-Life Inspiration Fuels “Neuer”’s Success

The eight-part series “Neuer” is based on a series of books penned under the pseudonym Václav Neuer, a former officer with nearly two decades of experience solving serious violent crimes within the Bratislava criminal justice system. The show draws inspiration from real criminal cases investigated by the Regional Police Directorate U Dvou lvů in Bratislava, offering a compelling blend of fiction and reality.

The success of both “Peča čela zemje” and “Neuer” demonstrates a strong appetite for engaging, locally-relevant programming in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, signaling a positive trend for regional television production.
