Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, stated a few days ago that the issue of border demarcation should be separated from the peace treaty discussions. In response to this statement, RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan noted that Armenia can consider the way of working, according to which the border demarcation can be carried out separately from the “peace treaty”, because in terms of time, this process can last much longer, even years.

In a conversation with Aysor.am, political scientist Stepan Danielyan states that official Yerevan does not oppose Baku’s agenda, because official Yerevan does not exist, that is, Armenia is not governed by the logic of protecting Armenia’s interests.

“Azerbaijan needs Armenia to ratify all its demands with a treaty, that is, Armenia finally renounces Artsakh. thus, Baku will move on to the next issues on the agenda. The only demand that Armenia can present is the demand to recognize territorial integrity, while it is obvious that Azerbaijan does not accept any of Armenia’s demands. This means that next Azerbaijan will advance the issue of Syunik. It is no coincidence that the Minister of Trade of Turkey announced two days ago that the issue of Syunik is open.”

According to Stepan Danielyan, if the so-called peace agreement is signed, the document will state that Armenia renounces Artsakh, the commitment to protect the rights and interests of the people of Artsakh. Baku, by leaving out the issue of border delimitation from the document considered as the main one, aims to further legitimize the military force against Armenia.
