One of Baltimore’s emblematic bridges, 2.5 kilometers long, collapsed in the early morning as a result of the impact of a Singapore-flagged cargo ship.

The ship collided with one of the pillars of the structure for reasons that are still unknown, and around 1:35 in the morning the structure of the gigantic bridge collapsed.

Cars traveling on the Baltimore bridge fell from a height of nearly 30 meters into the Patapsco River. Although the exact number of accident victims is currently known, authorities are searching for no less than twenty people, according to local media.

The vessel that crashed into the Baltimore bridge is named Dali, and it is a Maesk shipping company freighter operated by the Synergy Marine Group. All crew members are safe.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge was a steel truss bridge opened in March 1977. It is estimated that approximately 11.5 million vehicles passed through it per year.
