BAMF Research Center to Host International Conference on Migration and Integration in Nuremberg
A leading German research institute will convene experts in Febuary 2026 to mark two decades of impactful research on migration and integration policy.
Nuremberg, Germany – The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) Research Center will host an international conference in Nuremberg from February 3-4, 2026, celebrating 20 years of dedicated research into migration and integration issues. The event will serve as a platform for reflecting on past achievements and charting future directions in this critical field. Registration for in-person participation is now open, with a deadline of January 11, 2026.
Established in 2005, the BAMF-FZ has become a cornerstone of evidence-based policymaking in Germany, providing scientific advice on a range of complex migration and integration challenges. Initially focused on providing a general overview of available data, the center has evolved into a nationally and internationally networked institution, conducting empirical projects across numerous specialized areas.

The conference program features keynote speeches from prominent figures in the field, including Prof. Dr. Birgit glorius, Professor of human Geography at the Chemnitz university of Technology and Deputy Chairwoman of the Council of Experts, and Prof.Dr. Dominik hangartner, Professor of Policy Analysis at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in zurich and Co-Director of the Immigration Policy Lab.
Attendees can also expect engaging panel sessions addressing key topics such as skilled immigration to Germany, the living conditions of refugees, and the factors influencing migration decisions. A poster session and a “Meet the Data @ BAMF-FDZ” event will further facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration.
A dedicated panel discussion, “How can migration and integration research develop social relevance?” will feature insights from Dr. Natalie Welfens (University of Duisburg-Essen), Prof. Dr. Annette Treibel (PH Karlsruhe), Prof. Dr.Daniel Thyme (University of Konstanz and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Office), and Ben Mason (More in Common).
