Indonesia’s West Java province is grappling with the aftermath of severe weather events, including a tornado in Bandung Regency and hailstorms in parts of Bogor, which struck on Sunday, October 5, 2025.the incidents were confirmed by the country’s Meteorology,Climatology,and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through its West Java Climatology Station.
Damage and Injuries Reported
Initial reports indicate notable damage to homes in the Bojongsoang area of Bandung Regency following the tornado. According to a statement from the head of the Bandung Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Wahyudin, “Damage assessments are ongoing today to determine the severity of the impact on each affected house.” Preliminary data from the BPBD reveals that 49 houses in Kampung Cijagra RW 09 and 10, Bojongsoang Village, sustained damage.
One resident, identified as Arinah, 68, was injured after being struck by falling roof tiles and has been hospitalized for treatment. Strong winds, moving from south to north, also impacted several homes in Kampung Ciganitri RW 08-11, Lengkong Village, causing shattered rooftops and scattered debris.

The BMKG is warning of continued atmospheric instability across parts of West Java through October 12, 2025. Perdana Reynaldy Augus Usior, a weather forecaster with BMKG West Java, explained that rain intensity will be influenced by active low-frequency atmospheric waves and relatively warm sea surface temperatures. “Atmospheric instability is currently in the mild to strong category, indicating potential for the formation of local convective clouds,” Usior stated.
The agency has issued specific warnings for moderate to very heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, perhaps occurring locally and briefly on Monday, october 6, in Bekasi Regency and City, Depok, Bogor Regency, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, and Pangandaran.

looking ahead, the BMKG forecasts that Sukabumi and Garut may experience extreme weather on tuesday, October 7, followed by similar conditions in Cianjur and Bandung Regencies on Wednesday, October 8. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potential disruptions.
