According to eyewitness accounts, the KA 161 Bangunkarta train, traveling from east to west, struck a car attempting to cross the tracks. One resident, identified as Ipul, described the scene as a direct impact. “It was an accident where a train hit a car and two motorbikes. The car and motorbike were about to cross,” he stated to journalists at the scene. Another eyewitness, Yesi (26), provided a crucial detail regarding the crossing’s safety mechanisms. “it happened that from the east the train was honking continuously.So I saw that the train was not closed to the west,the train gate was still open but there was no sound (siren),” Yesi explained.
Further compounding the issue, Yesi reported that the door latch on the south side of the crossing was already broken prior to the incident. “I saw it here (north), there (south side bar) I don’t know but its position is broken,” he said, adding that the malfunctioning barrier allowed vehicles to proceed onto the tracks. he observed a red car and a motorbike instantly before the impact, stating, “Then when I looked from the north there was a red car with a motorbike behind it and it just crashed like that.” Yesi also indicated that four individuals were inside the red car.

Authorities have moved the wreckage of the vehicles to a location near the train gate guard post, where the extent of the damage is clearly visible. While the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, officials are awaiting official data from local hospitals.
Feni novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager for KAI Daop 6 Jogja, confirmed that the company is covering all processing costs related to the incident. “We are still waiting for official information from the hospital. KAI will cover all the processing costs,” Saragih stated. She further emphasized that a thorough technical investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the accident. “The cause is still under technical investigation and investigation. currently KAI Daop 6 is focusing on handling victims and assisting families for all necessary processes,” she concluded.
