Baniaka iron: The deposit could make Gabon one of the world’s leading producers

DIG/ The Australian Group Genmin will continue its investments in Gabon.

Its Director of Government Relations Patrice Raimbault reassured, on September 25, 2023, the Minister of Mines, Hervé Patrick Opiangah, of the implementation of the exploitation of the iron deposit in Baniaka in the province of Haut-Ogooué.

The two personalities thus reviewed the different stages of this project which should of Gabon one of the main iron producers in the world.

In terms of prospects, the planned production from the start is 5 million tonnes/year of ore for export, over a period of around ten years, with prospects of doubling this capacityassured Patrice Raimbault.

The Baniaka deposit has the resources JORC ​​certified mineral resources of 760 million tonnes, but the overall potential should exceed 4 billion tonnes of targeted resources (50 years), for 1,500 jobs generated during the exploitation phaseaccording to the company’s forecasts.

In terms of balance sheet, we retain that the environmental and social impact study is finalized.

Idem for engineering studies which allow us to understand how the mine will be built.

Currently, continued Patrice Raimbault, the Group is awaiting permits which will allow it to consolidate the investments of international partners.

Nearly 160 Gabonese are currently employed in this projectbefore its actual exploitation phase.
