Reserve Bank of India: If you have a locker in any public sector bank or private bank, this news will definitely be useful for you. Yes, RBI has not changed the locker regulations since 1st January last. Accordingly, the locker agreement between customers and banks was to be renewed by January 1, 2023. But now RBI has extended the last date for renewal of locker agreement between customers and banks. In this way, the RBI has extended the deadline for banks to implement these new regulations till the end of December this year.
Extension of deadline till end of December
The new norms were published in August 2021. Customers were informed about this and advised to sign the revised contracts by January 1, 2023. But RBI has extended the deadline to complete the renewal process till the end of December as most of the customers have not signed the revised agreement.

In this situation, on behalf of the Reserve Bank, it has been said that the banks should inform the customers of the revised regulations by April 30 and make 50 and 75 percent of the customers comply with the new regulations by June 30 and September 30 respectively. In a statement issued by RBI, banks have been instructed to ensure availability of stamp paper etc. and make necessary arrangements for execution of revised agreements.
Additionally, in cases where operations are prohibited in lockers for non-fulfilment of the agreement by January 1, 2023, the circular will be closed with immediate effect.
