In the shadow of the conclusion of the year 2022 and International Holocaust Day, today (Tuesday) the department for the fight against anti-Semitism in the World Zionist Organization, led by Racheli Bartz-Rix, publishes the report of the summary of anti-Semitism for this year. The report, based on local and international reports, research bodies, local police, Jewish communities and more, makes it possible to present an up-to-date picture of the state of anti-Semitism compared to previous years.
The report shows a slowdown in the increase in the number of anti-Semitic incidents, after an increase in the last decade, but the situation still remains worrying. Every day more than ten anti-Semitic incidents are reported around the world, with many incidents still not being officially reported. Also, there is a constant increase in the intensity of media coverage compared to previous years. The Russia-Ukraine war created a conspiracy in the context of the outbreak of the war. Also, according to the report, the boycott and BDS organizations are a significant factor in the spread of anti-Semitism around the world.
The distribution of anti-Semitism incidents around the world: During the year 2022, the incidents of anti-Semitism originating from Europe, North America, and the USA occupied a significant volume of approximately 46% and 39%, respectively, compared to 47.7% that occurred last year in Europe and 33% in the USA.
The distribution of expressions of anti-Semitism: most of the anti-Semitism incidents this year were characterized by propaganda and amounted to about 39%, and represent an increase of 15% from last year (28%). Next to them stand far behind physical violence (14%), verbal (11%) and delegitimization (7%), where only 1% of all types of events were characterized by demonstration events.
The Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, Jacob Hagoel, said upon the publication of the report’s data: “Anti-Semitism on social networks is increasing at an alarming rate, and unfortunately, as history has taught us, it will also lead to physical acts. We put up a clear black flag in view of the increase in incitement on the networks and call on the heads of state to raise the fight against anti-Semitism to the top of the order of priorities.”
