An innovative start-up from Germany failed to stay in the black. Now the fresh produce factory has gone bankrupt.
Frischemanufaktur, a German beverage manufacturer, has to close its doors. The company, known for its “favorite water” in flavors such as “water with lemon and thyme” or “blackberry with lemongrass”, could no longer find investors. It had therefore already announced bankruptcy in January. The remaining five employees were terminated, the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” reported.
Founded in 2017 by Jenny Müller in Beuna (Saalekreis), the company initially attracted attention with its special process for optimizing the shelf life of fruit salads, then launched in 2019 with flavored waters. The product was sold in several supermarkets in Austria and Germany. The start-up was praised in media reports as a model company for Saxony-Anhalt.
However, despite the innovative approach and market recognition, the fresh produce manufacturer failed to make a profit. “The sales did not match the costs,” explains insolvency administrator Christian Heintze in an interview with the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”.
According to Heintze, the product was found to be good. However, the figures show that the company “never made a profit”. That is not unusual for a start-up. However, there is currently reluctance in the industry and no investor has been found. “Other young companies feel the same way,” said Heintze.
