The City Council of bathrooms recovers through an exhibition the history of the city linked to water. ‘Recs: Banyoles and water’ reviews twelve centuries of hydraulic culture in the city and can be seen until the beginning of October at the Can Tarradas Municipal Exhibition Space. The exhibition offers a journey through the centuries-old path of territorial planning and urban that has led to the irrigation system of Banyoles built from the 9th century. In the city, there are 33 kilometers of watercourses, some underground, others open air.

Throughout the city’s history, the waters have been the engines of the Banyolina activity, moving forges and mills, making possible the activity of bleachers and tanners, clothiers and weavers, papermakers and powder makers, farmers and gardeners. In addition, the recs have also allowed socialization and leisure around washrooms and corners.

Tour with 52 panels

In the exhibition, this history and connection of the recs with the city is explained through a linear route of 52 meters of panels, which are complemented by audiovisuals, models and scenographies. The explanation of the sample is structured through seven large blocks where the lake and its geology are explained; the monastery and the property of the waters of the lake; the construction of irrigation ditches, the multiple agricultural, industrial or leisure uses that have been made of irrigation ditches throughout history; or the recovery that has been made in recent years of the watercourses to return them to the urban landscape.

The exhibition is produced by Banyoles City Council and part of it has been sponsored by the companies Agbar, Aigües de Banyoles, Bonpreu Esclat and Vidresif.
