Derived from the expenses that the new security measures that bars, canteens and nightclubs must comply with, their owners could seek long-term and low-interest financing or an extension, said José Carlos Robles Lliteras, president of the Merchants Association from Revolution Avenue.

As of August 9, these types of establishments must have a metal detector arch, to prevent diners from introducing weapons; video surveillance cameras at entrances and exits; panic button; and a trained security guard.

“The need for financing is being seen as to how we can do it through the government, or a long-term financing of one year to get out of those expenses,” said Robles Lliteras.

He added that another option would be to look for inexpensive equipment, such as walk-through metal detectors.

“Also [analizan] the request for a three-month extension to enter into force, as has been done on occasions when new measures are implemented for businesses”. he indicated.

Regarding the modification to the regulation, the president opined that the measure is “correct” for the safety of those who attend the bars, both for tourists and locals.

José Carlos Robles said that fortunately most of the businesses on Avenida Revolución already have many of the new measures, such as surveillance cameras and they check customers to prevent the entry of any type of weapons.
