/ Barcelona‘s coach, the Spanish soccer league champion, Xavi Hernandez, explained on Friday that the duo, Lamine Yamal and Pau Kuparsi, may chart a new era for world football in the future.
“They have to maintain their level — Barcelona is the highest level in world football,” Xavi said, in the press conference dedicated to Saturday’s match against Las Palmas in La Liga.
He continued: “Many have reached the professional level, but maintaining it is very difficult, but they are capable. They have everything, the mentality, the abilities. I think we are looking at two players capable of drawing a new era for the club, and even in world football.”
Xavi noted that Yamal is “very calm and mature” compared to his age, despite his emergence into the limelight.
He added: “On the mental level, I see him as a happy, joking boy, and he is enjoying it more and more.”
Young Yamal (16 years old) excelled against Brazil in a friendly international match, on Tuesday, for the Spanish national team, while Kobarsi made his first international appearance with the “La Roja” shirt last week against Colombia, before he also participated against the Seleção.
The two players have become important elements in the Blaugrana squad, which returns to the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in four years, and still maintains slim hopes of retaining the local league title.
Yama is the youngest player to participate in the national team, and the youngest player to score, while Koparsi (17 years old) is the youngest defender to wear a Spain shirt internationally.
Barcelona is eight points behind Real Madrid, who leads the standings, but can reduce the gap to 5 before Real Madrid plays Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
