LONDON, 2026-01-28 16:56:00 — A man has been found guilty of assaulting a woman after Donald Trump’s youngest son reported witnessing the attack during a video call.
A London court found Matvei Rumiantsev guilty of assault and perverting the course of justice after Barron Trump, 19, alerted UK police to the incident.
- Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.
- Barron Trump was in the United States when he contacted police after witnessing an assault on a video call.
- Prosecutors said Rumiantsev was motivated by jealousy over the victim’s friendship with Mr. Trump.
- Rumiantsev was acquitted of rape and intentional strangulation charges related to the same incident.
Matvei Rumiantsev, a 22-year-old Russian national, was found guilty by Snaresbrook Crown Court of assault occasioning actual bodily harm between January 17 and 18 of last year, and perverting the course of justice, according to reports from Sky News.
The court heard that Mr. Trump contacted a 999 call handler while in the United States to report that a woman was “getting beat up” in London. Rumiantsev answered the FaceTime call and allegedly turned the camera to the woman, who was crying and screaming on the floor.
Prosecutors argued that Rumiantsev was jealous of the woman’s friendship with the U.S. president’s son, potentially due to Mr. Trump’s “public profile.” Rumiantsev reportedly became aware of the woman’s friendship with Mr. Trump in October 2024.
In a transcript of his call to City of London Police, Mr. Trump said, “Oh I’m calling from the US, uh I just got a call from a girl, you know, she’s getting beat up.”
Following the incident, Rumiantsev wrote to the victim from prison, asking her to withdraw her allegations. He was later acquitted by the jury of rape and intentional strangulation relating to the same date as the reported assault, as well as another count of rape and assault alleged to have occurred in November 2024.
Mr. Trump later provided investigators with a statement in May of last year, describing the incident. “What I saw was very brief indeed but indeed prevalent,” he said. He described seeing a “shirtless man with darkish hair” answer the phone before the camera was turned to the woman who was “getting hit while crying, stating something in Russian.”
Rumiantsev told the jury he was “jealous to some extent,” stating, “I am being portrayed as a jealous person who can lose his temper due to jealousy. I want to just make clear that her actions towards him was wrong and it was not fair.”
Barron Trump’s intervention led to the arrest and conviction of Matvei Rumiantsev on assault and perverting justice charges, though he was acquitted of more serious allegations.
