Baruch Dayan the truth. Former member of the Knesset, Mordechai Bibi, passed away at the age of 100. Among his many positions, Bibi served as the deputy speaker of the Knesset.

In a statement released on behalf of his family, it was stated: “Yesterday we said goodbye to our beloved father, Mordechai Bibi. The funeral will take place today at 2:30 PM in the ‘Menochet Olam’ civilian cemetery in Netanya. The burial is in the house he loved so much: Achimair 18 Ramat Gan.”

Bibi was born in 1922 in Baghdad, Iraq and was one of the founders of the Zionist-Pioneer underground in Iraq, which he headed in the years 1942-1945. In Israel he continued his activities and after the establishment of the state he was one of the organizers of the aliyah from Iraq.

Bibi studied law at Tel Aviv University and qualified as a lawyer. Between the years 1953-1959 he worked in the Ministry of Defense.

In 1959, he was elected to the Fourth Knesset on behalf of the Labor Unity – Poalei Zion, of which he had been a member since 1946. During the Seventh Knesset, he was a member of the Committee for the Selection of Judges and served as the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset. With the union between his party and Mapai, he was a member of the formation and the Labor party. Before the elections to the 8th Knesset, Bibi announced that he would not run for a place in the Knesset again.

After his retirement from the Knesset, Bibi continued to be active in his party and, among other things, was a member of the party’s constitution committee and a representative to the Zionist Congress. In 1991 he was awarded the title of beloved of the city of Ramat Gan.
