Sales in the commerce sector, which includes wholesale, retail and the sale and repair of motor vehicles, fell 2.7% in the Basque Country in the third quarter compared to the same period last year, at constant prices and once calendar effects extracted. According to data released yesterday by the Basque Institute of Statistics, in relation to the previous quarter and once seasonal effects were discounted, sales decreased by 0.7%.
By subsectors, the year-on-year evolution of sales was positive in the sale and repair of motor vehicles, with a growth of 6.3%, and in retail trade, with an increase in sales of 0.7%. % in relation to the third quarter of the previous year. On the other hand, in wholesale trade sales fell 6.6% year-on-year.
Regarding employment in the sector, the index of personnel employed in commerce in the Basque Country increased by 1.3% in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2022, while compared to the second quarter of this year, growth stood at 0.4%.
