Battlefield RedSec: New Free-to-Play Battle Royale Arrives with Battlefield 6 DNA
A new battle royale experience, Battlefield RedSec, has launched, leveraging the core mechanics of Battlefield 6 and promising groundbreaking destruction and intense squad-based gameplay. The game is available as a free-to-play title on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox consoles.
DICE, the developer, describes RedSec as a unique entry into the battle royale genre. “Enter a Fort Lyndon for a Battle Royale that only Battlefield can offer, with large-scale destruction, accelerated patrol gameplay and the deadliest ring in BR,” a company release stated. Players will compete in matches supporting up to 100 participants, forming patrols of two to four players. A new elimination mode, “Challenge,” will pit patrols against each other in mission-based objectives, while the established “Portal” system will allow for customized battles.
The game will feature microtransactions, but developers assure players these will be purely cosmetic. “Within the game there are complementary microtransactions that do not affect the playable core at all,” according to the release. “All they provide are aesthetic alterations to the weapons and your character.” All future content updates will be provided at no additional cost.
For existing Battlefield 6 players seeking a streamlined experience, integration is possible. Players can download Battlefield RedSec directly within the Battlefield 6 application. To do so, navigate to the settings menu, select “systems,” and then click the “install/uninstall” option. From there, the RedSec download can be initiated as part of the existing game installation. A recent post from Battlefield Bulletin on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted this process for players: https://twitter.com/BFBulletin/status/1718518999999999999. The file size for RedSec is 8.378 GB on PC and 3.679 GB on consoles.
Players looking to host private matches in Battlefield RedSec will need to purchase the “Battlefield Pro” content pack. Priced at 24.99 euros, this pack includes the first season’s 25 level skips and additional seasonal bonuses. All private game management features are accessed through the “Portal” system.
The arrival of Battlefield RedSec signals a significant expansion of the Battlefield universe, offering a compelling free-to-play option for fans of the franchise and newcomers alike.
