Four Bavarian athletes – Koharu Itagaki, Anna Walter, Jonas Rinderer, and Samuel Kuhl – are central to the nation’s ambitions, though the road to the tournament wasn’t without unexpected challenges for some.
U15 girls Aim for Medal Contention
The German U15 girls’ team, seeded fifth, enters the competition as both the reigning European champions and bronze medalists from the previous year. The team, comprised of koharu Itagaki, Josephina Neumann, Amelie Jia, and anna Walter, faces formidable opposition from top-seeded South Korea and China. according to national coach Jie Schöpp, the team will begin its campaign in the round of 16 on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. CET,with a potential quarterfinal clash against fourth-seeded India at 5:30 p.m. the same day.
Individually, Koharu Itagaki, the European champion, is ranked fourth, trailing Heo Yerim (South Korea), Zhu Qihui (China), and India’s Divyanshi Bhowmick. Josephina Neumann is also a strong contender, seeded eighth. The duo is also ranked fourth in doubles, offering another avenue for potential success. “Koharu is going into the tournament in very good shape,” a senior coach stated, “But at that age you can never say for sure because the stability can always fluctuate a bit.”
Rinderer Gains Experience in First World Championship Appearance
for Jonas rinderer, the tournament marks his debut on the world stage. Ranked 23rd in the U15 age group, the young player from Ruhmannsfelden is not currently considered a medal favorite. He will partner with Poland’s Jan Mrugala in the doubles competition. A national coach emphasized that the primary goal for Rinderer is to gain experience and prepare for future competitions.
