New Children’s Hospital Planned for Tampa, Opening in 2030

TAMPA,Fla. – BayCare is moving forward with plans for the Pagidipati Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph’s, a new freestanding pediatric facility slated to open in 2030. The project, fueled by a $50 million gift from the Pagidipati family of Tampa, promises to substantially expand access to specialized pediatric care across West Central Florida.
The new hospital is envisioned as a successor to BayCare’s current St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. Designers at Page, now operating as Stantec, are prioritizing a welcoming and healing environment for children and their families, with a focus on intuitive wayfinding and comfortable shared spaces.
What makes a hospital feel less…like a hospital? BayCare’s design concepts emphasize a multi-color façade and dynamic lighting that will change with the seasons and holidays, creating a cheerful and inviting first impression. Inside, the hospital will blend clinical functionality with playful, warm aesthetics.
“Pagidipati Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph’s will transform pediatric health care across our region – pairing innovation with the compassionate, family-centered care our community has come to expect from BayCare,” according to a recent declaration.
The project aims to build upon the strong foundation of St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital while creating a more welcoming atmosphere for patients and their families. “Our vision for the new hospital is to elevate every aspect of care – blending state-of-the-art, child-focused design with advanced clinical programs across a wide range of pediatric specialties – to dramatically improve the experience for children and families,” the announcement continued.
The St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Foundation is collaborating with the Pagidipati family and other local philanthropists to accelerate the project and foster innovation in pediatric care.
Currently, St. Joseph’s children’s Hospital provides thorough pediatric services, including specialized care for cancer, heart conditions, emergency medicine, and chronic complex illnesses. Key programs include the Bayless Cancer Institute, the Patel Children’s Heart Institute, the 24-hour Steinbrenner Emergency/Trauma Center for Children, and The Daniel J. Plasencia, MD, Children’s Chronic Complex Clinic.
