General Secretary of the party and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has ordered to mourn Rajbari District Awami League Organizing Secretary Mahmudul Asad Russell for beating Daily Jugantar’s staff reporter Rafiqul Islam while performing his professional duties. Expressing anger over this incident, Obaidul Quader has banned Russell from coming to the Awami League office.

On Tuesday (July 9) at the Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital, Obaidul Quader ordered the office secretary of the party, Barrister Biplab Barua, to be mourned before the joint meeting with the party’s central leaders of the Dhaka Metropolitan North-South Branch. At this time, he also expressed his regret about the attack on the journalist.

Yesterday Monday (July 8) Rafiqul Islam went to the political office of the Awami League president to collect news. There he was attacked by Russell and some people who were with him. Moreover, they kept giving kill-punches. Later, after two central leaders of Awami League came forward, Russell withdrew with his companions. The journalists present there strongly protested the attack.

Earlier in the press conference, Russell pushed a leader of the party for standing behind. That video went viral on Facebook.

Obaidul Quader ordered Mahmudul Asad Russell not to enter the central office of Awami League and party chief Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office and said that many complaints have been received against him earlier. He is doing misdemeanor even using my name.
