Polish authorities are investigating a series of objects, including weather balloons, that crossed the border from Belarus carrying illegal cigarettes, raising concerns about potential provocations.

Podlasie Border Guard officers discovered further parcels containing illegal cigarettes. “They were smuggled from Belarus to Poland using… weather balloons,” the Border Guard reported on Saturday, January 17.The services have initiated efforts to identify those involved in sending and receiving the parcels. Shortly after, officers announced the recovery of another illegal shipment.

National Security Bureau Investigates Potential Provocation

The National Security Bureau issued a statement regarding the incident. “President of the Republic of Poland karol Nawrocki is kept informed by the head of the National Security Bureau, Minister Sławomir Cenckiewicz, about the course and consequences of the night entry of several dozen objects from the territory of Belarus,” the Bureau stated. Services monitored the event throughout the night, collecting and analyzing data from both military and civilian sources.
