However, a combination of approaches, often referred to as “Multi-Use,” is typically employed to optimize operations.

Globally, installed PV capacity reached nearly 3 Terawatts (TW) at the beginning of 2026, according to Wood Mackenzie. This rapid growth is placing significant strain on electricity grids and market mechanisms. Large-scale energy storage is emerging as a crucial solution to address these challenges. The economic viability of stationary storage is improving rapidly, with prices falling to $70 per kilowatt-hour in 2025, as reported by BloombergNEF. This decline is driven by overcapacity in cell manufacturing, intense competition among Chinese manufacturers, and the increasing use of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells. Industry stakeholders fear that the removal of EEG subsidies could make it more tricky to secure financing for new projects, highlighting the importance of reliable and investment-secure frameworks.
