The lily of the valley bells are a little ahead in places, in 2022. The harvest has started, in anticipation of sales on May 1.
In Loire-Atlantique, lily of the valley began to bloom a bit earlier this year. Good weather, mild temperature: in the family farm located near Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), where the 13 Hours went, the lily of the valley arrived four days earlier than expected. A total of 800,000 branches will be collected in a few days.
Everyone is working to preserve the quality of lily of the valley until May 1st. “It is very good, but on the other hand, we must not waste time, we must pick it up now because if we wait three or four days, it will be too late and it will be too flowery for May 1, or even it will be lost”, explains Yvonnick Perrin, field manager. Once picked, the lily of the valley is sorted and placed in the refrigerator. With 60 million strands sold each year, the Pays de la Loire is the leading producing region in France.
