Beloslava Krasteva achieved her fourth victory at the European Women’s Individual Classical Chess Championship, which is being held on the island of Rhodes in Greece.
In the fifth round, the Bulgarian achieved impressive success with the black pieces of the strong Pole Olivia Kiolbasa and collected an asset of four points.
With it, she occupies 14th place in the provisional ranking, but is only half a point behind the leader Ulvia Fataliyeva from Azerbaijan, from whom she has also lost so far.
The round turned out to be successful for most of the other Bulgarian women at the European Championship. Victoria Radeva defeated the Georgian Lile Koridze with the white pieces, Nadia Toncheva outplayed the blacks Ekaterina Parvulescu from Romania, and also with the blacks Gergana Peycheva prevailed over the Greek Dimitra Alexandri.
Petya Karaivanova drew the white pieces with the German Harris Peglau, and Antoineta Stefanova drew the black pieces with the Austrian Elisabeth Hapala.
Radeva and Toncheva have 3 points each, Peycheva and Karaivanova each have 2.5, and the former world champion Stefanova has 2 points, modest for her abilities.
Wednesday is the only day off for female chess players in the tournament, and the European Championship continues on Thursday with the sixth round games.
