In energy policy, lessons must be learned from the corona pandemic. This is what two parliamentarians from Germany and France are demanding. The need of the hour is a European energy union. A guest post.
Climate change and the energy crisis are challenging us: Europe must move closer together. Secure, clean and affordable energy is the basis for European sovereignty and for our path to the first climate-neutral continent. Concrete action is required: We must now take the step towards a real energy union.
Even during the Corona crisis, it took a while for Europe to get going. When it comes to climate and energy, what counts now is European public spirit and cooperation. Either we master the crises together, or we get under the wheels.
Further integration steps necessary
It is clear that there will be no complete standardization of energy policy in Europe, Germany and France will continue to take different positions on nuclear energy. Therefore, the first thing to do is to respect different approaches instead of lecturing one another. In a second step, the respective potentials must then be brought together in a common strategy – in order to become stronger together.
